Disclosure
Compounded medications, explained plainly.
Some programs may be fulfilled as a compounded preparation where clinically appropriate and permitted. That status changes what is known about the product, so it is disclosed before purchase.
What compounding is
Compounding is the preparation of a medication by a licensed pharmacy for an individual patient, typically because a commercially available product does not fit that patient's needs — for example a different strength, form, or the exclusion of a specific ingredient.
- Prepared by a licensed pharmacy for a named patient
- Requires a prescription from a licensed provider
- May be used where an approved product is unsuitable
- Disclosed on every ClientRx program page where it applies
What compounding is not
A compounded preparation is not an FDA-approved product, and it should not be treated as equivalent to one.
- Not reviewed or approved by the FDA for safety or effectiveness
- Not backed by the clinical trial programme of an approved product
- Not guaranteed to perform identically to a branded medication
- Not appropriate for every patient, or every program
